Summer is here and if you're looking for summer activities for your kids, Jackson and the surrounding area has a plethera of activities for all age groups and all interests. Here are just a few that we found listed in the Jackson Sun on May 20th.
Arts and Crafts - Marguerite's Art Gallery 116 E. Baltimore St. Jackson (731) 664-3940, Classes are $80 per month for one sesson a week including art supplies. There are classes on printmaking, pottery, painting and drawing. Classes are from 2:30 - 6 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The gallery also offers summer art camps.
Paint a Piece 8075 Giacosa Place, Wolfchase Commons in Memphis (901) 387-3473, $7 for adults to paint, $5 for children. The pottery ranges from $3 to $40. Painting pottery is a fun activity. There are more than 100 different pieces to choose from and more than 50 paint colors. Your creation is sure to be one of a kind.
Interaction with animals - Tennessee Safari Park, 637 Conley Rd, Alamo (731) 696-4423, 9 am to 6:30 pm daily, $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 3-10, children under 3 free. The 100 acre park includes 350 animals from 60 species, including lambs, zebras, monkeys, and camels. The newest addition is the 18 foot giraffe named Jerry.
Circle M Farm, 434 Bakers Chapel Rd, Medina, (731) 783-3578, The 40 acre farm includes dairy goats, pigmy goats, Barbado sheep, miniature donkeys and Belgian draft horses. Horse-drawn carriages are available by appointment as well as hay rides.
Horseback Riding - Jackson Equestrian Center, 1875 Hwy 70 E, Jackson, (731) 427-8768, On hour horseback riding lessons include English and Western riding, jumping, games, barrel racing and more.
Birdsong Trail Ride Inc., 565 Little Birdsong Rd, Camden, (731) 584-9206, Horse trail rides for adults and children 12 and older. Cost $37 per day. Children 6 and younger can ride for $26 per day. Children 5 and younger attend free. You must bring your own horse to ride along the miles of these wooded trails and creeks near the Tennessee River.
Sports and Recreation - Exodus Paintball Park, 100 Watt Boone Rd, Medina (731) 426-5700, Call to make appointment. Gun rental is $40 which includes 500 paintballs. The seven acre park opened last summer and includes four courses; a barrel field, an airball field for fast play, a wooded field and a gorge course. It's best to schedule, however walk-ins are welcome.
Interactive Museums and Centers - The Discovery Museum, 315 E Lafayette, Jackson (731) 422-6333, 10 am to 3 pm Tuesday thru Saturday. Admission: Take a tour and explore children's and historic exhibits.
Adventure Science Center - 800 Fort Negley Blve, Nashville, (615) 862-5160, 10 am to 5 pm Monday thru Saturday, 12:30 to 5:30 Sundays, Admission: $9 adults, $7 children 3-12, Children two and under free. Get ready to climb, slide, explore and discover. Become a pilot and take a three-minute flight in a full motion flight simulator or climb a 75 foot Adventure Tower that overlooks Nashville.
Boys & Girls Club Teen Center 261 McCowat St, Jackson (731) 423-0627, 2:30 pm to 6:30 pm Monday thru Friday, Admission: Free The new facility includes a 70 seat theater, small theater with Wii system, cumputer lab, gym and learning center.
